I don’t know about you, but in my daily travels, I come across a lot of people who merit a savage dressing-down. Most of the time, I’m up to the task, believe you me. But on occasion, the wit well runs a bit dry. And nothing’s more embarrassing than facing down someone in need of a well-crafted insult with nothing more than an “Oh, yeah?” or a “Same to you, buddy” in your arsenal.

But why struggle to come up with appropriate insults when William Shakespeare has done all the work for you? That’s the idea behind Official Shakespeare Audio Insulter from CHS Systems.

The $1 app is an iPhone spin on the Shakespearean insult generators you’ll find on the Internet. This app’s distinguish feature: the insults take on spoken form. Just touch the picture of The Bard and stand back as he denounces you as a goatish, weather-bitten clotpole (in an accent that clearly did not originate in Stratford-on-Avon). Because of the audio aspect, the Insulter app works best on iPhones and second-generation iPod touches; the developer says first-generation iPod touch owners will need a pair of headphones to hear Shakespeare’s timeless words of abuse.

The new Trojan Horse is currently hidden in pirated copies of Apple’s iWork ‘09 available via various BitTorrent tracker sites. While the software is complete and functional, the installer contains a “bonus” called iWorkServices.pkg. This software is installed as a startup item where it has read-write-execute permissions for root: in other words, it has all the powers of a system administrator. This malicious software connects to a remote server over the internet, alerts its maker that it has been installed and gives this person the ability to connect to the affected Mac remotely.

Given that this alert came from Intego, it is no surprise that their software, VirusBarrier X4 and X5, will protect you against this Trojan horse as long as your virus definitions are dated January 22, 2009 or later. Meanwhile, over at SecureMac, they have made a free and handy iWorkServices Trojan Removal Tool that will… well… remove the Trojan for you.

I should mention that the preferred method of dealing with this Trojan is avoidance: go buy iWork ‘09 legitimately!!

With a Gigapan Imager and his Canon G10, Bergman shot 220 images and took more than six and a half hours using Gigapan software to put them all together on his Macbook Pro. The completed TIF file is almost 2 gigabytes.

You can view the image in minute detail using flash controls at Bergman’s website, in full-screen mode here (I found this the best viewing on my machine), and at the Gigapan site.

To demonstrate a new method for fabricating three-dimensional living biological structures, researchers at the University of Tokyo’s Institute of Industrial Science (IIS) have created a 5-millimeter tall doll composed of living cells.

According to an announcement made on January 22, the researchers created the tiny figurine by cultivating 100,000 cell capsules — 0.1-millimeter balls of collagen, each coated with dozens of skin cells — together inside a doll-shaped mold for one day. After the cell capsules had coalesced to form the doll-shaped mass of tissue, it was placed in a culture solution, where it reportedly survived for more than a day.

The researchers, led by IIS professor Shoji Takeuchi, also successfully tested the biofabrication method with human liver cells. According to Takeuchi, the technique can be used to create bodily organs and tissues with complex cellular structures, which may prove useful in the fields of regenerative medicine and drug development.

“The overall shape can be controlled by changing the mold,” said Takeuchi, who expressed a desire to combine multiple types of cells to create a complex system that functions as a living organism.

It is also very useful for people using screen protectors, when you would tap the screen through the protector and the alignment wouldn’t be a perfect one. This utility aligns the screen automatically via some mathematical formulas and equations so it is advertised to be very precise.

AutoAlign Screen currently works for VGA and WVGA devices like the Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch HD and Xperia. After you install the cab to Device, there will be an icon in your Programs menu which when tapped, will make calibrate your screen (but it will look like another installation. That’s when the correct registry entries are set).

Why is this useful? It will give you the ability to run full Windows apps in your iPhone over the network. According to Citrix, you will have full Windows capability, including cut and paste inside Windows.

According to Citrix

we are actively developing a Citrix Receiver for the iPhone that will bring the world of millions of Windows apps and developers to the iPhone. As part of our testing and demonstrations we are looking for examples of compelling applications that will not run natively on the iPhone, however if the app was hosted on XenApp and delivered to the iPhone it would provide a great visual example of the power of Citrix and the iPhone.

Some things that come to mind are;

* Medical Apps
* Web apps that need IE
* Cut & Paste ( within Citrix sessions )

We have received great feedback and use case descriptions on the original post ( keep that coming ) now we are looking for specific apps or new ideas that would really open eyes to the possibilities.

According to Brighthand, Mac rumor sites have found a silicon skin case for the diminutive iPhone Nano from a Chinese maker, stirring more speculation of the device’s launch. The device maker had gained reputation for pre-releasing photos of the iPhone 3G’s case and a recent iPod case ahead of Apple’s announcement. The smaller iPhone will be similar to the iPhone 3G, but may eschew 3G and come with a smaller screen.

The smaller screen size of the rumored iPhone Nano will more closely compete with smaller touchscreen smartphones like the Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro.

On a different, but similar note, the Touch Diamond’s bigger brother–the Touch HD–had beaten the iPhone and other competitors in a test done by Channel 5 The Gadget Show, according to WMPowerUser. With a smaller screen and more navigation control, the Touch Diamond should be able to beat out the iPhone Nano.

Knowing how RIM is very particular when it comes to the BlackBerry brand is presented. The slides are most likely not final and spell BlackBerry with a small “b”. Nothing big…just something that caught my attention.

Here’s a nice present that should make all Rogers and Fido customers very happy!

There are new pics flying around that show the 9520 BlackBerry Storm to be available at Rogers soon (First half of 2009)! This touchscreen device will have 3G HSPA and WiFi built into it. The following price plans are rumoured to be coming in about $50 lower that Bell and TELUS are currently offering. Most likely by the time this officially launches the price of the 9530 Storm will have a price drop.

Rogers 9520 BlackBerry Storm pricing:
3-year: $199.99 (most likely with a $45 voice and data)
3-year: $249.99 (most likely no data plan)
2-year: $379.99
1-year: $479.99
No Contract: $529.99

In addition to this glorious news, Rogers will be launching the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200, this time it will have 3G and GPS built in. It will have the same 2 megapixel camera with flash and video. (Current version of the Pearl Flip 8220 does not have GPS or 3G.)
